Not-WINNING at all cost

Abraham Lincoln is quoted to have said “I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live by the light that I have. I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong”. The “value” I would like to instill in our people is to compete in the right spirit and do your best. Sometimes due to extraneous factors the results may not go our way. But we will not compete to win at any cost by foregoing our belief. Lord Buddha sums it up beautifully;”It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell”.

Winning is not a once in a way thing; it’s an all time thing. You don’t do things right once in a while, you do them right all the time. This is the way you work, you finish examinations, manage scarce resources, how you treat people and build teams and successful people. Winning is a habit.

The will to win is important. We conquer peoples hearts and minds by doing the right thing and that’s winning despite the governance aspects may not be considered good in the Corporate sector! No shortcuts in life, set an example for your colleagues. This will hold you in good stead for the future. You know what they say “those who live by the sword, die by the sword”
